Natural light as the starting point
At Mana Hotel, on Cumbuco Beach, artificial light carries on at night the path of natural light, which crosses, transforms and reveals the spaces throughout the day. It extends the relationship between light, materials and landscape and strengthens the hotel's connection with the local culture and environment.
Scope
The lighting design covers the entire development: guest rooms, corridors, restaurant, gym, spa, retail space, social and event areas, circulation and landscaping.
Lighting concept
The design favours indirect and grazing light, discreetly integrated sources, careful glare control and predominantly warm colour temperatures. Light is used with restraint and varies from one area to the next, creating hierarchy and responding to the atmosphere and function of each.
- Guest rooms and shared spaces: visual comfort and continuity between spaces.
- Exterior: light guides circulation and interacts with the vegetation and reflecting pools, using reflections, shadows and layers of light to give depth to the night landscape.
Efficiency
During the day, natural light is the main source of illumination, which reduces the need for artificial light. At night, light is used only where needed: to guide circulation, reveal materials and enhance the landscape. Efficient LED sources and controlled light levels reduce energy consumption and unnecessary light spill.
