25 years transforming spaces with light.

WeLight was born in Rio de Janeiro as a lighting company for scenography, creating projects for concerts and events for clients such as Copacabana Palace and Hotel Fasano, as well as special projects for Madonna during her stay in Rio de Janeiro. That origin built a close attention to the relationship between light, space, people and experience.

Fifteen years ago the studio settled in São Paulo and turned to architectural lighting. Today there are more than 1,700 projects delivered in Brazil and abroad, in partnership with some of the country's leading architecture practices.

Product curation came later, at the request of the clients themselves. Each product is selected for its technical characteristics and for the performance the project demands, seeking the solution that best materialises each lighting strategy.

In Rio de Janeiro, WeLight works from Casa Ipanema, with architect Adriana Falcão, the partner responsible for the Rio operation.

The three pillars

Creativity
Years in scenography built a repertoire of experimentation with light. That origin is where the ability comes from to explore new possibilities, create atmospheres and find a singular solution for each project, always in dialogue with the architecture.
Technology
Three-dimensional visualisation and calculation, technical detailing and integration with lighting control systems bring precision to the design and bring what is conceived closer to what is delivered.
Innovation
When a project calls for a solution that does not yet exist, new possibilities are developed and tested. Custom fixtures, prototypes and mock-ups allow each solution to be tried, assessed and refined before it is installed.

Jayme Liande

Founder and design director

He brings together the creative eye built in scenography and the precision of his engineering background. His work is tied to the development of the WeLight methodology and to the search for singular solutions that connect design, innovation and result.

From that meeting of creativity and technique come the prototypes and mock-ups used to test, develop and refine solutions made specifically for each project.

His experience in procurement also shaped WeLight's product curation, built on technical analysis and on choosing the solutions that best answer the needs and the intent of each project.

Outside Brazil

Projects in Europe, the United States and Latin America

WeLight's international work began in Europe, with the Ornare Milan project, installed in a roughly 200-year-old historic palazzo in the Quadrilatero della Moda and developed in dialogue with local heritage preservation requirements.

In recent years that presence has expanded to cities across the United States and Latin America, growing out of relationships built in Brazil with clients and partners who came to rely on WeLight for their international projects as well.

Today that experience connects the WeLight methodology to different architectures, cultures and ways of living.

Large-scale work

Curation and a direct line to the industry

On larger projects — hospitality, healthcare, industry and large workplaces — WeLight handles the technical curation, deals directly with manufacturers and follows the procurement carried out by the clients themselves.

WeLight's work began mainly in residential projects, where it developed a close attention to comfort, to people and to the different ways spaces are used. Over time that approach was brought to other project typologies as well.
